What is The Ego? The ego is defined as "the division of the psyche that is conscious, most immediately controls thought and behavior, and is most in touch with external reality." (Dictionary.com) Simplified in the energy reality, the ego is only half of our consciousness; the half that thinks of itself as "I", yet fails to acknowledge it's greater existence as part of a conscious and living universe (See: Universe Explained). At the root of the ego is always fear, and the fear that creates the ego is only an illusion. In the energy reality, the vibration that causes fear derives from fear itself. This means that those in power who are trying to keep us in a constant state of fear are themselves afraid. They're not afraid because they're in power, they're in power because they are most afraid. In a society that perpetuates fear as the norm, it is the most afraid ones who rise to the top in every aspect. Through the education system and all sources of media, people are told and conditioned, encouraged, and often rewarded to live life by way of the ego. Theego is what protects them from the parts that they falsely hate due to criticisms, which wouldn't occur if it weren't for the media making people believe those parts are insuperior. By molding minds to fear being criticized, manipulation comes easy. I like to think of the ego as a mechanism used to defend one's insecurities, where people develop it to override fears of feeling humiliated, embarrassed or centered-out. People feel the need to defend themselves because they're constantly fed a barrage of advertisements that show how imperfect they are, as well as television shows, sports, movies, and music that promote violence, separateness, and ego-driven people. When one firmy believes in their government, they will also trust their society as a whole and blindly subscribe to the beliefs given to them from the media and so-called authorities. When one does this, their society in fact becomes an extension of the self, and this is where the danger comes in; capitalism bears the mentality that money comes first - even at the expense of the health and lives of humans, animals, and the environment. "Only 5% of our life is controlled by our conscious mind, and 95% of the time controlled by our subconscious, with programs from other people that were installed - the problem is, when those programs are playing we don't see them." - Bruce Lipton Ph.D. Corporations hire professional marketers who are well-aware of how massively influenced our minds are, and so the people are constantly bombarded with advertisements, completely oblivious to the fact that these are affecting them deep on a subconscious level. These corporate advertisements not only tell us how to live our lives, but they work to entice guilt, create insecurities, and exploit those insecurities simply to sell a product that claims to be able to fix those insecurities and create happiness. Create a problem, then provide the solution - this is what keeps the money flowing. Because of the degradation and "chipping away" of the insecurities perpetuated upon us through marketing and media, people are afraid of being criticized for these fictional imperfections, and are thus cast into society living their lives in a defensive manner that can quickly turn into conflict and aggression. This defensive attitude occurs because it is to defend a parts of oneself that they do not like, and so they suppress them. Due to the fact that the people have been hoodwinked into believing they are physically insuperior, most people spend their time searching for the next material posession that they believe will bring their missing half. This keeps business running because then they work many hours until they get this pill, toy or gadget, only to realize that they're insecurities have not been secured. The person then works even harder to suppress those unwanted parts and the end result of what's left of themselves is the ego - a frail, fearful, defensive shell of a person seeking solutions the only way they know how - more material posessions. This duality also leads to the search of a mate who can help them feel whole and secure, and this is why people tend to search for a mate who posesses qualities that they've suppressed from themselves. Instead of a true relationship with two complete people coming together in love, they actually merge halves to create a whole. This is dangerous because a power struggle will always ensue, and the relationship becomes merely a sexual distraction from self and a means to an end. People get addicted to sex, drugs and material posessions all for the same reason - a temporary burst of satisfaction, and distraction from their own self- hatred - the parts of themselves that once made them whole. <Next> |
