Processed Oils and Fats
Contrary to the popular belief, your body needs fats and oils, but they must be the right kind - not the processed fats and oils that we see so widespread in today's foods. There are about 80 trillion cells in your body, and each is encased by a cell membrane which is primarily created from fats and oils. If you eat the right kinds of fats and oils, your cell membranes will allow for proper passage of the nutrients in, and the toxins out. These right kinds of fats and oils are called Essential Fatty Acids (EFA's). Our bodies need them and cannot make them, hence they are essential. When oils are heated up passed 392ºF, the fatty acid molecules change in structure and turn into trans fats. The shape of the molecules in trans fats does not create proper cell membranes - creating holes which allow substances to leak out, and making them brittle. Your Remedy: Eat Essential Fats (like omega 3's and omega 6's) and Olive Oil, and avoid eating hydrogenated or trans fats found so predominantly in the food industry. <Return to the Health Guide> |
